The Ministry of Health has announced plans to adopt artificial intelligence (AI) and other digital technologies to improve healthcare delivery across Ghana. Speaking at the launch of the 2025 Future of Digital Countries (FDC) Summit in Accra, the Minister of Health explained that the growing burden of chronic diseases and increasing demand for healthcare services require innovative digital solutions. He emphasized that AI has the potential to improve the quality, efficiency, and accessibility of healthcare while supporting better decision-making within the health sector

One of the government's key priorities is the use of AI to help reduce maternal mortality. In collaboration with the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), AI-powered systems are being explored to identify high-risk pregnancies, strengthen maternal care, and improve clinical decision-making. The technology is also expected to support clinical audits, monitor compliance with treatment guidelines, and enhance supervision to improve the overall standard of healthcare services.

The Ministry further plans to use AI to address operational challenges within hospitals, including the persistent "no bed syndrome. "By analyzing hospital capacity and patient information in real time, AI can assist in allocating beds more efficiently and improving emergency care. In addition, digital technologies will be used to strengthen supply chain management, reduce resource leakages, improve access to health information, and support ongoing reforms aimed at achieving universal health coverage.
